As the end of the school year approaches, it also means that the team projects are coming to a close, and the final such project was working at the Equine 808 Horse Rescue Ranch. Equine 808 takes in horses either too old for their intended duty or no longer wanted by its owner. In addition to the horse, they also had on hand a couple of donkeys, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks and guinea pigs. Our job this morning was to refurbish horse stalls full of ruts created by the horses themselves. Uneven stall floors can cause injury to the horses. This meant digging up loose dirt, filling wheelbarrows, and rolling them into the stalls. After that, mulch was used to cover the fresh dirt to provide softer footing for the shoeless horses. Dusty? Yes. Smelly? Definitely! Fun? ABSOLUTELY! It's the third time we have volunteered here in the last four years, so that says a lot. We'll be back!
