LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

9/29: GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!

What a complete rip-off of the Pokemon theme!  But with respect to the creators of this anime, "Gotta Catch 'Em All!" is exactly what the SA Executive Council felt we should be doing with the annual Complex Leadership Conference.  Gathering student leaders from the five Moanalua Complex Schools:  Moanalua Middle, and Moanalua, Red Hill, Salt Lake and Shafter Elementary Schools, the conference included workshops, energizers, games and team building activities.  Students ranged in age from 3rd to 7th grade, but once they were all together, age, school and any other individual qualities melted away as they became one huge leadership unit.  We thank the individual school advisors and administrators for allowing their students to attend, especially because there is a mutual reward.  While the participants learned to be better leaders, we are also preparing them eventually to become great leaders at the high school  level.  On this year's MoHS Executive Council, ten of the thirteen officers attended this complex conference, most more than once.  Pictured above:  The top eight pictures include opening ice breakers, people bingo, workshops, an interactive method session, team "video" presentations, and team games.  The final three pictures include a total group shot (121 participants!), a tired but happy officer group shot, and below, JUST THE SENIORS at their final complex conference (l-r:  Alyssa Lagat-Ramos, Kelly Zakimi, Sydney Miyashiro, Haley Pendergast, Wai Sam Lao, and Daphne-Jayne Corrales)!
