LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

1/14: HAPPY OHANA DAY!

It's the start of a new year, and that means Ohana Day at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii!  For many years, this has become a traditional project.  Past officers have done almost every job from manning the game tent, supervising the bounce rides, taking surveys, upkeeping the bookstore, and preparing KC Waffle dogs.  For the last three years, however, we seem to have found a home in the volunteer booth, registering ALL of the volunteers for both shifts.  One great thing about working this booth is that the coordinator, Charlene Yamamoto, is a Moanalua alum!  It just doesn't seem like a new year until we work at Ohana Day!  So, a belated Happy New Year to all, and hope you had a chance to attend this year's Ohana Day at the JCCH!

1/12: TEACHERS GOT TALENT!

What happens only every four years?  Presidential elections?  Olympics?  World Cup?  Well, yes, yes, and yes, but the most exciting thing to happen every four years is the Moanalua High School Teacher Talent Show!  That's right!  So that every class gets to see the show once in their four years, the teachers and staff puts on a show featuring various talents that students never imagined teachers possessed.  This year's show was awesome, thanks to teacher chairs Ms. Nicole Schorn and Mr. Sean Takahashi.  Thanks also to ALL the performers, and an equal thanks to all who did NOT perform as they had to pull double or triple chaperone duty in the bleachers.  See you in 2022!

1/11: AKITA CHUO STUDENTS IMPRESS MENES!

Four students from Akita Chuo High School visited today, and the main purpose was to make a presentation about alternate forms of energy to our students.  Ms. Kobayashi's Period 5 class served as the audience, and the visitors captured their full attention for the entire period!  The guests discussed subjects like geothermal and biomass energy and later allowed some Q/A time.  In addition, they also shared slides of Akita and school activities.  It was obviously an eye-opening presentation for our students.  Thank you to Ms. Kobayashi and her Period 5 class for being such gracious hosts!

1/9: REGISTRATION TIME!

Whoa, is it time for registration already?  That's right!  The first day back in school after Winter Break always signals the start of registration, and the second night is always Registration Night for parents of incoming freshmen as well as any parent and student struggling with questions about classes for next year.  Registration night is filled with information on how to register as well as break out sessions for all the major subject areas and department chairs discussing courses in greater detail.  For student government, our job is to provide guidance services to parents who need to find classrooms as many are coming from the middle school and might be at the high school for the first time.  It's at night so pictures are grainy!  Welcome to all incoming freshmen!
