The annual Children and Youth Summit took place at the State Capitol for students from across the state! The event features five major issues: economy, education, civic rights, health and human services, and environment and sustainability. Our task was to facilitate each issue group with students brainstorming ideas for improvement for each one. Then, the best ideas from each group were brought together for everyone to vote for their favorite issues. From there, the final top five ideas move on the the Hawaii State Legislature to create bills that hopefully become laws. For us, it was a great way to use the leadership skills learned in a genuine activity that involves student voice.
