LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

12/18: I'D MELT FOR YOU!

Winter Fantasy 2014:  "I'd Melt for You!  What a great time was had by all!  Typically, students leave early because they think they have better things to do.  But this year, by the time 10:00 came around, only a small handful of students had left early, most of whom had prior engagements.  Another plus this year was that only a few students were caught "naughty dancing" and many were not from Moanalua.  Once again, a great event put on by advisor Lori Mizue and chairpersons Devin Soogrim and Jackie Agena.  Thanks to all the administrators and chaperones who gave up their Thursday night as well.  Be on the look-out, December 17 is right around the corner, 365 days from now for Winter Fantasy 2015!

First order of business:  TAKE THE PICTURE!

12/12: HAPPY HOLIDAYS, STAFF!

Our annual holiday card greeting procedure was changed up a bit from previous years.  While we prefer to pass out cards personally, we would always be able to do so for only about 25% of the staff, and we would ultimately miss a few or double-up on others.  So this year, while definitely not as "warm and fuzzy," we placed cards in everyone's box to ensure that we did not miss anyone.  This was our last project for the calendar year 2014 and are looking forward to 2015!

12/7: MAKINO MUNCHIES!

This year's annual SA Executive Council Holiday Dinner was once again held at Makino Chaya.  It was a great way to celebrate the season and accomplishments thus far.  Besides the obvious buffet dinner treat, we also kept to the tradition of a secret grab bag with some "not so surprising" results since many put up a "wish list" in the SA officer lounge.  Still, it was fun to see who got whom specifically what!  To everyone out there reading this...

12/6: IHS PROJECT AN EYE-OPENER!

Our November/December service project was held at the Institute for Human Services Women's Shelter in Kalihi.  The task for the day was to sort clothing donations and place them onto racks by size and gender.  There were mounds of donations and, while we were not able to sort every single item, we managed to  do about two thirds of the amount.  The eye-opening experience was the simple fact that there were dozens of homeless women and children who at first seemed unapproachable but as the day wore on we found them to be quite warm and friendly.  It is unfortunate that people are in this situation, and we were happy to be able to do something for them.

Waivers in hand, we're READY to work!

This is a LOT of donations!

Mission accomplished!
