LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

2/26: HELPING MORE GIRLS ENJOY THE PROM!

The Bella Project aims to help disadvantaged girls enjoy the prom by providing donated dresses, accessories, make-up and shoes.  The last Saturday in February is always the designated day, so help is needed the night before to set-up.  That was our task!  We left almost right after school on Friday and arrived at Central Union Church just in time to help unload cars and trucks full of donations.   Then we proceeded separate dresses by size and organize accessories.  We hope that every girl who attends tomorrow will be able to find something she likes.   If you would like to donate your prom dress for next year and help a great cause, please contact The Bella Project:  thebellaproject.org

There are sure a lot of donations!

Extra small is a popular size!

Even this is too big for you, Shareen!

Smile for a close up!

We had LOTS of help!

After two years of field construction, the "annual" Powder Puff Tournament took place once again!  The two round tournament featured ALL FEMALE teams from each grade level.  The first round pitted the freshmen against the seniors while the sophomores challenged the juniors.  Winners of both games played for the championship.  In the end, the junior team proved they were the best, even though initially, they barely had enough players to field a team!  Thank you to advisor Mr. Dane Canida; trainer Ms. Cindy Shimoda; referees Mr. Eddy Gudoy, Mr. Kyle Nakamichi, Mr. Brendan Rasheed, Ms. Kelly Kaholokula, and Mr. Matthew Pounds; class advisors Ms. Lauren Kiyono, Mr. Justin Kohara, Ms. Robyn Faumuina, and Mr. Na'a Makekau.  Special thanks to Mr. Joshua Suapaia for helping get all the equipment necessary.  The tournament could not happen without any of these people! The final results are:

2-12: SEEING RED!

No, we're not angry!  It's just Wear RED Day!  In keeping with tradition, officers scoured the campus during recess looking for people dressed out in RED.  In addition, the Period 4 class that had the highest percentage of students dressed in RED also won a prize.  This year, for the second year in a row, it was Ms. Koyanagi's Period 4 class.  Congratulations!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

2/11: IT'S HAPPY HEARTS TIME!

As Valentines Day approaches, it also means that it's time for Happy Hearts!  This is the activity where students can send Valentine messages to others, anonymously if they wish.  This year we received about 150 messages, and we hope that the recipients will be equally happy to receive them!

Monday

2/1: WE LOVE OUR COUNSELORS!

Once again, it's Counselor Appreciation Week!  While we love our counselors all year, this is a special week dedicated just to them!  As with tradition, each day of the week a different group honors the counselors:  SA on Monday, Seniors on Tuesday, Juniors on Wednesday, etc.  It's the very least we can do for all of their year round efforts!  So, THANK YOU counselors!  We hope you have a wonderful (and problem free?) week!

Putting together counselor gifts!

Thank you to our newest counselor, Ms. Himuro!

Ms. Sablan also joins the counseling staff after being the "CAP lady!"

Great job, Ms. Kai and Ms. Faildo-Lee!
