LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

5/27: AN ADVENTURE IN LEADERSHIP!

Leadership Conference!  We can say how much fun it was, how much we learned, and how many friends we made, but nothing says more than pictures.  If you attended, hopefully you are in at least one picture below!  This year, we also included guests from Moanalua, Kamehameha, and Aliamanu Middle Schools as well as Moanalua High School for a total of 73 participants!  Thank you to all the advisors from each school as well as our alumni facilitators without whom this event could not happen.  And thank you to all participants, too!  Everyone involved gave up a Saturday to participate!  We sincerely hope that the activities will be useful in future school level events!

5/22: COMMENCEMENT HISTORY MADE!

For the first time since 1975 when Moanalua graduated its first class of students, commencement was NOT at Moanalua High School.  Instead, because of field construction, commencement was moved to Aloha Stadium.  And, while there were a few logistical issues, the ceremony went very well thanks to senior class advisor Justin Kohara and the graduation staff committee.  We would also like to extend our thanks to the stadium staff for their patience, flexibility and professionalism, and also to the graduation staff from Campbell High School who held its commencement the night before and helped us with our set-up.  It was a all-around team effort!

4/28: MAY DAY 25TH ANNIVERSARY!

Time sure flies!  It has been 25 years since Kumu Claire Manutai started organizing an official May Day Program at Moanalua and over the years, the show has gotten better with every year!  Literally hundreds of student performers have graced the outdoor Mene Stage where it all began, to the gym floor where it eventually moved.  Through it all, the color and pageantry of each show was and still is professional quality.  In recent years, it has become so popular that a full dress rehearsal occurs the night before the assembly just for parents and friends.  Mahalo Kumu Manutai and the Polynesian Dance classes present and past for all the wonderful shows!
