LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

4/23: LANTERNS FOR LOVED ONES!

We missed doing this activity last year, but this year we were back to help make floating lanterns for the annual Memorial Day event at Magic Island.  Literally thousands must be completed by the end of May, so we came to do our small part.  Each of our 7 teams were able to complete between 8-10 lanterns.

Listen carefully to directions!

Let's get started!

4/21: PEOPLE PURPLE UP!

It's Purple Up Day, a day to recognize our students of military families!  While Purple Up Day has been in existence for a while, this was actually the first time Moanalua has formally recognized it!  We have a fairly large military population, so this was a long time in coming!  So on this day, we wish to thank the military families for their sacrifices in order to protect our country and our freedom.

4/8: SALT LAKE FUN FAIR FUN!

That's right, a fun fair that was really FUN!  Of course, as a service project, it meant we had to work, but no reason we could not have fun while doing so!  Our annual visit to help at the Salt Lake Elementary School Fun Fair found us helping at the games and rides alongside a huge group from the sophomore class and National Honor Society.  Besides the games and rides, there was lots of food,  a silent auction, a dunking booth, and plenty of entertainment from SLES students.

Victoria and Jennifer help
at the basketball game!

Young Jae and Jenny watch those

Bethany, Edra, and Alyssa pass

3/31-4/1: RETREAT - NEW SITE, SAME SUCCESS!

Our annual planning retreat took place at a new venue this year, the Pagoda Hotel.  And while we moved the site, we still managed to plan for all major activities with some new and exciting ideas.  In addition, we even had some extra time at the end to discuss other activities and possible changes to the program in general.  Because the site changed, so did the "free time" activities.  Instead of walking through Waikiki for meals and a scavenger hunt, our activity site centered at Ala Moana Shopping Center.  Again, different venue, same fun!  Hope you enjoy our pictures!

Just getting Started!

Temperature check!

Scavenger Hunt....guess where?

Surely you know where this is?

This is obvious!
