LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

3/29: SPRING RALLY HONORS ALL!

The Spring Rally honored all spring sports teams as well as groups and individuals who have brought positive recognition to Moanalua.  For this rally, that included HOSA, DECA, Mock Trial, and senior Jun Ho Won, the State Men's Amateur Golf Champion for 2017.  The rally concluded with a bottle tossing game won by junior Jania Young.  Good luck to all sports teams for the remainder of their seasons, and congratulations to all award winners!

3/16-17: OSCAR SLEEPOVER IN SESSION!

This blog is being written 30 minutes into our annual OSCAR Sleepover!  This is the night when we all get together to work on OSCAR pages.  About 80% of the book is completed by the next morning!  It's a lot of work, but we also have fun working together, watching videos, talking and of course, EATING!  There are many other ways pages could be done including directly on computer, but nothing beats "old school" scrap booking for bonding!

Some worked in the SA Room....

Others overflowed into the CC Room!

Now Showing:  The Secret Life of Pets!

Nothing beats my trusty laptop!

Kayla and Jennifer hard at work....

while Edra grabs a snack!
Twelve hours later, all pages DONE, and we're still wide awake!  Thank you to all officers for a job well done!  We look forward to sharing our OSCAR at SLC 2017!

Hey!  Where's Edra and Jenny?

Wednesday

3/15: GREEN DAY IS HERE!

Well, it's not really a St. Patrick's Day celebration, but close enough.  Since St. Patty's Day is on a Friday Exam Make-up Day, we are celebrating GREEN DAY on the last day of two exams.  A lot of people still got into the spirit as shown below.  The winning Period 5 class was Ms. Sheets's Yearbook Staff.

HAPPY GREEN DAY!

3/2: SPRING FOOD DRIVE CRATES RICE MOUNTAIN!

The annual Spring Food Drive saw students donate over 7300 items and also created a mountain of rice!  In the past, the most popular donated item was Vienna Sausages, but rice seems to have taken over the top spot in the last two drives.  The drive was a class competition, but more importantly, donations went to the Hawaii Foodbank from which many needy families will benefit.  The results are as follows:

1st:  SENIORS

2nd:  SOPHOMORES

3rd:  JUNIORS

4th:  FRESHMEN

HR:  MEW (Grade 12)

HR Winner:  Mew, Grade 12

Rice unleaded by the cartful!

2/27-3/3: THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY!

Spirit Week is here!  The theme is "The Wonderful World of Disney," stealing the old title from a popular television series in the 70's and 80's.  Of course, the dress up days centered on the theme while the noon hour games were somewhat related.  The annual Powder-puff Tournament was replaced by a Dodgeball Tournament because of field construction.  See all the  happenings below.
