LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

9/23: HARD FOUGHT PARADE CAPS HOMECOMING COMPETITIONS!

This year's Homecoming Parade seemed to go off without a hitch because most people only saw the parade itself.  What started off as an event that was supposed to take place on September 9 eventually was forced to move to September 23 after many rounds of attempted compromise.  In the end, an HPD blackout (due to an international convention) was firm, and the date was moved.  Then, because of the move, all paperwork had to be changed, job requests altered, and reserved vehicles unreserved then re-reserved.  Finally, after the date change was made because of the HPD blackout, HPD itself did not provide an officer for the 23rd until an hour before the parade started, and only one out of two requested.  Still, one hurdle remained, and that was weather.  With the approaching remnants of a hurricane scheduled to bring higher winds and rain, it would only be fitting that it happened.  But, the weather held up and everyone showed up happy and ready to go!

9/22: DAY RALLY INCLUDES ALUMNI RECOGNITION!

As it should.  While Homecoming is a great week of fun activities, competitions and performances, remember that the TRUE meaning of Homecoming is to "welcome home" alumni.  Moanalua is fortunate to have 38 former students on staff!  Principal Robin Martin greeted each alumnus as s/he came up to the front, and they closed the assembly with the alma mater.  Of course, all of the other traditional activities occurred including the introduction of the court, a presentation by the football team, the song contest, and the championship volleyball match which features a senior victory over the juniors, 25-12.  Happy Homecoming Week, Menes!  Just one more day and event (parade) left!
