LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

8/30: FALL RALLY FOLLOW-UP!

The Fall Pep Rally featured the seven fall sports teams as well as the marching band and color guard, the principal's report, and a class competition that featured a bowling game.  While also a fall sport, the football team will be featured later at the Homecoming day pep rally on September 22.  Thank you to all the team captains for the excellent team introductions, the band's great pep music, awesome cheer routines by the cheer team, and of course a great report by Principal Martin.

What's a pep rally without the defending
State Champion cheerleaders?

The Air Riflery team is always competitive!

8/26: R.E.S.P.E.C.T!

RESPECT!  How does one get it?  How do we improve it through activities?  That was the main topic today as student leaders from every middle/intermediate school in the Central District visited Moanalua High School to be trained in the Interactive Method (IM) of meeting.  This is a process where every person in the group has a say in the final decision, and that final decision is reached by consensus. Most of the groups preferred some sort of Spirit Week or similar event where school wide games and activities are held to promote pride.  We hope that by the time the workshop ended that every student leader was able to understand and use IM in their future decision making activities.

8/18: IS IT TIME FOR OPEN HOUSE ALREADY?

Wow, it seems like the school year just ended, and it's already time for Open House!  Yes, this is the traditional event where parents get to meet their child's teachers and get an overview of the courses.  Another part of the tradition is that student government officers and other student volunteers serve as guides to help parents find classrooms.  This year, 40 students from all grade levels came to help.  Thank you to all the volunteers!

8/5: GAMER GREETINGS!

Welcome Back Assembly 2016 featured a Smash Bros. theme as freshman Casey, addicted to the game, learns all about Moanalua and the many activities in which she can participate!  As usual, the cast included SA and class officers, committee chairs, and other student volunteers who gave up part of their summer break to rehearse.  In all, 75 students came out to help prepare props, scenery, voice-overs, and danced in the finale.  Thanks also to the cheer leading team who kicked off the assembly!

8/2: WELCOME TO MOANALUA!

Freshman Orientation is typically that....mostly freshmen.  But this year, we also welcomed almost 40 students from grades 10-12 as well.  In fact, they took up almost half a section of bleachers!  The morning was filled with informational meetings with homeroom teachers, followed by an assembly in the gym hosted by the SA Executive Council.  At the assembly, students were treated to an ice breaker and a traditional skit warning them about the 10 things to avoid if you want to "fit in."  The orientation culminated with a campus tour, fee payment, and of course, picture taking for the yearbook and student ID.  We hope that everyone who attended received some valuable information!

7/25: PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY!

Well, at least part of the preparations were underway!  Because of a communication problem, we could not do the usual planner split for homeroom teachers because of an administrators' meeting in the library where the job is usually done.  So, the only thing we could do was hold a regular meeting, then collate packets for the staff which took less than a half hour.  The remaining time was spent preparing for the Welcome Back Assembly, so we at least got that done!  Kind of a rocky start to the school year, but things always seem to work out in the end!

Let's get those teacher packets ready!

I think we're short a few pages!
