LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

4/28: MAY DAY SPECTACULAR!

Scenes from this year's May Day Program, another outstanding performance by the Polynesian language and dance classes and club under the direction of Kumu Claire Manutai.  Thank you to Kumu Manutai and all the student performers who put in countless hours of practice, and to all the families and friends who supported the performers.

4/16: FUN AT THE FUN FAIR!

The last personal officer project of the year was cleaning up after the Salt Lake Elementary School Fun Fair.  While much of the really heavy work was covered by the volleyball team, we were asked to clean out the game tent and take all supplies back to a storeroom, then later teamed up with the volleyball players to clear out the food concessions.  It turned out to be a great team effort.  Special thanks to the volleyball team for providing some unexpected snacks, too!

Ready to get to work!

The fair included FOOD.....

4/2: RETREAT SCAVENGER HUNT WINNERS!

This year's scavenger hunt title went to the "newbies," although in this case, most of the newbies are returnees for 2016-2017.  The goal was to capture ten assorted pictures throughout Waikiki.  Here are their results!  The only one missing in all the pictures is photographer and treasurer-elect Jenny Lin. Congratulations!

4/1-2: PLANNING RETREAT IS QUICK AND EFFICIENT!

Last year, the annual Executive Council Planning retreat finished early.  Similarly, this year we finished a whole hour early thanks to everyone staying on task and participating seriously 100% of the time. There was no wasting of time going off on tangents, no unnecessary comments, and a general unified atmosphere which bodes well for next year.  Major events were planned including Welcome Back Assembly, Leadership Conference, and of course, Homecoming.  Themes for each will be kept under wraps for now, but we are confident students will like them!

Everyone ate dinner together at CPK!

We stayed ON TASK...

and focused!

But we still had lots of fun!

SERIOUSLY....

4/1: SPRING PEP RALLY MAKES USE OF TECHNOLOGY!

The Spring Pep Rally recognized athletic teams from the current season but also featured the use of the new big screen monitor in the gym.  A special science award presented by the Toshiba Corporation recognized two students, one of whom has since moved to the mainland, but we were able to stream her live so she could be "present" as well.  In addition, the boys' volleyball team showed an action video during their introduction.  To be sure, more teams will be wanting to do this in the future!
