LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

1/19: REGISTRATION NIGHT SETS THE RIGHT COURSE!

One of Moanalua's annual events in January is Registration Night, a night parents of incoming freshmen as well as new students can obtain assistance with selecting just the right courses for their children.  In addition, parents may attend individual sessions with teachers representing the various subjects.  For student activities, it is also a chance for us to share our program and encourage incoming students to participate and get involved.  Officers also provide guide service for parents trying to find the presentation rooms.  We hope everyone who came to the event got the help they needed!

1/10: OHANA DAY RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year!  Once again, our first project of the new calendar year is the annual Ohana Day Festival sponsored by the Japanese Community Center of Hawaii (JCCH).  This event is spread out at the JCCH building in Moiliili as well as across the street at Moiliili Field.  Last year we battled poor weather but while this year it was nice and sunny, the sprinkler system was left on the night before turning the field into a muddy mess in the morning.  Nevertheless, the crowds came and the festival was a success.  Our task this year was to take surveys of people to find out why they liked (or disliked) the event and ways to improve.  Of course, we also had some time to enjoy the festival itself.  We'll probably be back next year....remember to turn off the sprinklers!

All set and ready to work!
