LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

11/25: FOOD DRIVE RESULTS MIXED!

This year's Fall Food drive yielded mixed results.  While we apparently had more actual FOOD donations, which is great, the overall total number of items was down from last time (7013 this time vs. 8148 last time).  Part of the total is calculated including monetary donations with every $.50 counting as one item.  Basically, food donations were up but monetary donations were down.  Still, every item counts in the overall Hawaii Foodbank collection where hopefully, many needy families will benefit.  Congratulations go out to the JUNIOR class for winning the overall class competition, and Mr. Kohara's junior homeroom for winning the individual homeroom competition.
1st:  JUNIORS (3192 items, 6.6/student)
2nd:  SENIORS (1678 items, 3.4/student)
3rd:  SOPHOMORES (1047 items, 2.1/student)
4th:  FRESHMEN (984 items, 2.0/student)

HR WINNER:  Mr. Kohara's JUNIOR Homeroom
Juniors needed a cart to deliver donations!

Seniors also brought a cart load!

Part of the total haul!

11/25: THANKS!

As the Thanksgiving holiday and ensuing Black Friday approaches, please stop and give thanks to the many wonderful things we have in America!  As a school wide activity, Links of Thanks attempts to have each student, even for just a short moment, write down something for which s/he is thankful on a piece of construction paper which is then "linked" into a chain.  This year's total link, while not a record breaker, is still approximately 160 yards long.  It is displayed on the second floor railing of the cafeteria (pictured below).  To everyone checking out this blog, please have a....
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

11/17: TALENT SHOW DELIVERS ONCE AGAIN!

The Mene Stars Talent Show always seems to get better and better every year.  A precursor to the statewide Brown Bags to Stardom Competition, this year's show featured eight acts ranging from a band, to dancers and of course, singers, both accompanied and acapella.  While it was a difficult task, the judges finally came up with the top two winners:  Angela Fay Navor taking second, and Ciara Greene capturing first.  Thank you to Talent Show advisor Mr. Duane Suyama, the Talent Show Committee, and alumni judges Kamryn Ziegler, Rachel Sabio and Jennifer Domingo.

11/11: CAMPUS BEAUTIFICATION, RAIN OR SHINE!

Today's Campus Beautification Day activities went on despite short periods of rain.  Since most projects were indoors or under a roof, it did not really matter.  Unfortunately, the only activity that has become somewhat of a tradition, the repainting of the Mene Square "M," had to be postponed because obviously, paint will not roll on and dry properly.  Still, a lot was completed as mentioned below.  Thank you to all participating organizations!  Also, special thanks to the cafeteria staff, Ms. Pat Nitta, and Ms. Liane Voss for their generous donations, and to the entire Administrative team who helped with the opening of buildings and rooms for various projects.
