LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

5/29: COMMENCEMENT 2015!

The Class of 2015 graduated tonight.  Like other classes, there were major accomplishments, individually and as a group.  But this class experienced some unique events.  There were lows, like losing fellow classmate Leighton Mow in a tragic accident.  There was the unusual like winning a Class of the Year award without winning Homecoming as well.  There was the record breaking as the class that donated the most money to charity by any other class ever.  And of course the highs like winning Class of the Year three times.  No other class has ever done that.  Behind the scenes was one of the most vibrant and energetic class advisors in Lachelle Sablan.  Thank YOU, Ms. Sablan, for a wonderful four years!  Congratulations, Class of 2015, and best wishes for the future!

All set to go!

Officially, it was the "Na Mene Ho'oulu Awards Night," where dozens of Menes were recognized by the local, state, and national community for their efforts throughout the school year.  In addition to community awards, all scholarship winners were recognized as well by College and Career Counselor Anya Ishida.  Congratulations to all recipients!

5/23: WE DEFINITELY SUPPLIED LEADERSHIP!

Leadership Conference 2015's theme was, "We Supply Leadership!"   And today, that's exactly what we did!  A dozen alumni facilitators helped guide 70 participants through workshops and activities to hone their leadership skills and teach new games and  energizers.  As always, some were apprehensive at first but by lunch,  everyone seemed to get right into it!  Being a good leader is a challenge, and it is not easy.  Hopefully after today, all participants will feel a little more comfortable in their upcoming leadership roles.  Special thanks go out to all the alumni facilitators (see picture below) and advisors:  Lauren Kiyono (Class of 2016), Justin Kohara (Class of 2017), Maggie Chiu (Class of 2018), Renae Villa (Moanalua Middle School), and Gail Vannatta (Kamehameha Middle School).

5/1: MAY DAY MAGIC!

Once again, Kumu Claire Manutai and members of the Polynesian Dance classes and club took the entire student body and faculty through a magical journey to Polynesia.  Dances and songs from Hawaii to Samoa, Tahiti, and more were featured.  The one hour program seemed too short.  Kumu Manutai has been directing the program for many years but always finds a way to make each year better, and this was no exception.    Mahalo to her and the many student performers who share their cultures with us every year!
