LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

2/20: BELLA PROJECT A MUTUAL BENEFIT!

This evening's service project started out to be just that.  Just another service project.  But once there, at Central Union Church, we found ourselves in a sea of lightly used (probably only once) prom dresses, shoes, make-up, and accessories!  The only thing better would have been if it was at a chocolate factory!  Of course, there was work to do, sort the dresses by size and color, display the shoes and make-up, but it was FUN work.  Plus, we knew that the Bella Project is a good cause, an event for girls who might not be able to afford a new prom dress.  The event actually takes place tomorrow, but tonight was the big set-up.  We hope that the girls who attend can find something nice to wear to their proms!  This is definitely a repeat project next year!

Getting final instructions for the evening!

Then.....it was time to sort shoes,

.....make up and accessories,

.....and of course, the gowns in every size and color!

Thank you to the Bella Project!

And thank you to ALL the volunteers!

2/17: S.A. GENERAL ELECTION FOR PRESIDENT CLOSE!

Six of eight S.A. officer races were unopposed, and only Treasurer and President remained contested.  While the office of Treasurer was close but still decidedly in favor of one candidate, the office of President went down to the wire.  Such a close race has not happened since the 2002-2003 school year when the difference was less than 25 votes and in a recount, the original "losing" candidate ended up winning!  This year's result was not quite that close but still required careful counting.  Congratulations to all for running for office!

The Elections Committee carefully counts the ballots!

Edra Ha, Recording Secretary
Erin Kobayashi, Corresponding Secretary

2/13: A DAY EARLY VALENTINES DAY!

Well, for the first time in a while, Valentines Day falls on a Saturday, so we celebrate Wear RED Day on Friday the 13th!  It was GOOD luck for many including Ms. Koyanagi's Freshman English class who won the dress-up competition, those who received Happy Hearts from SA and roses from the freshman class, and those who simply chose to wear RED today and received a treat from the officers at recess.  Hope you all have a.....

2/11: HAPPY HEART HAPPINESS!

As Valentine's Day nears, our annual fun and FREE activity, Happy Hearts, enabled hundreds of students to send "secret" messages to others, or maybe not so secret as well.  Simply write your message, address it to the person's homeroom teacher, return it to the SA Room, and you're done!  Writing your real name is optional!  An estimated 400+ Happy Hearts were sent!  Pictured below are the officers preparing and distributing Happy Hearts to teachers' mailboxes.  We hope you are happy to receive one!

2/10: CAMPAIGN RALLY FINALLY PRESENTS CHOICES!

After last year's live Campaign Rally was canceled because only four candidates ran for office, this year proved to be different.  A total of eight candidates were seeking six positions.  While that still leaves four offices unopposed, those candidates must still earn two-thirds of the votes cast in order to win their seats.  Only President and Treasurer have opposition.  This is in stark contrast to last year when only four candidates ran for six positions, so two had to be appointed.  Congratulations to ALL candidates who were brave enough to run for office, and good luck to all in the General Election on February 17!
