LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

1/20: MEET AND GREET AT REGISTRATION NIGHT!

This year's annual Registration Night was moved from October to January as registration now takes place later in the year.  The event allows academic departments as well as other school groups like athletics, AFJROTC and yes, even student council a chance to promote themselves to parents and eager incoming students.  It gives officers a chance to talk face-to-face about our program and its value to the overall education of a student.  Officers also served as guides for parents looking for individual classroom sessions.

1/11: HAPPY NEW YEAR AT OHANA DAY!

The annual Ohana Day Festival seems to be our way to kick of the new year of community service!  The event, which takes place at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) and Molili'ili Field across the street drew hundreds of people for food, games, bouncy rides, and of course, Japanese cultural events.  One difference this year was that we were spread around in responsibilities instead of grouped together in the game and craft booth.  While some worked there, others were in the gallery and store, while some also ended up in the volunteer booth.  Still, it was a fun event, and we will probably be at it again 365 days from now!
