LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

Annnd....we're done!  A little tired, a little hot, and a tiny bit dirtier!
OK, it's not like the place was going out of business or anything, but the folks who run Equine808, a horse rescue facility, simply needed volunteers to help clean and paint fences, so that's how many of us spent our Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  Equine808 is located out in the middle of Kunia farmlands and is not visible from Kunia Road, so getting there is a little tricky.  Also, the facility has no running water except for a catchment system.  Horses that would normally be euthanized after their "useful" lives are sent to Equine808 to live out their life and for some, provide rides for children's birthday parties.  Also at the facility are donkeys, goats, chickens, turtles and, well, pretty much any animal that perhaps was once a pet but is no longer wanted.  We've helped here before today and always have a lot of fun.  A future visit may be in order!

FINALE!  Thank you, teachers!
It was a once in a lifetime thing!  Well, once in a high school lifetime thing!  Every four years, the teachers get together for a talent show, and 2014 is that year!  Teachers from almost every department were represented and featured singing, dancing, and even some play acting.  It is a gift to the students who hopefully appreciated the rehearsal time and effort that all performers sacrificed.  Thank you to all participating teachers, and see you again in 2018!
