LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

11/27: NEW RECORD FOR LINKS OF THANKS!

Measuring the links on the athletic field!

Then, hauling all of them back upstairs!

Getting ready to display links in the cafeteria!

Getting started....

filling up the inside....
and the outside!

This is what it's all about!
Three years ago, the S.A. Executive Council started "Links of Thanks," an activity where students write short notes of thanks on a construction paper strip, then link the strips together into a chain.  In that first year, 190 yards of links were created, a record that stood until this year!  This year, just over 250 yards of links were created, a NEW record!  More importantly, we hope that everyone had a moment to share for what they are thankful and head into the holiday season on a bright note.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Sunday

11/24 - XTERRA RUN IS "HEAVENLY!"

Getting ready to work!

Fill those cups quickly!

It was a total team effort!

Not all the runners needed water, but we were ready!

Most of the slower pack did stop for refreshments!

"Heaven!"
As one runner put it when he passed our water station, he said he needed to take a picture of "heaven."  Our latest project was manning a water station at the annual XTerra Run on the windward side at Kualoa Ranch.  It was certainly a beautiful day and the scenery did match.  We enjoyed cheering on the runners and providing some aid to them.  And, we also got some great training in how to fill up cups of water and Gatorade really FAST!

Thursday

11/15: TALENT SHOW FEATURES A WIDE VARIETY!

1st Place:  Diamond Inouye
2nd Place:  Joshua Koh
3rd Place:  Joelle Lee
Talent shows of the past were often loaded with singers, then eventually dancers took the spotlight, but this year's show brought out a wide variety of different acts from ukulele to electric guitar and even beat boxing.  While every act this year was great, only three could place and in the end, the results were:

1st:  Diamond Inouye (Beat Boxing)

2nd:  Joshua Koh (Singing)

3rd: Joelle Lee (Ukulele)

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to ALL participants for putting on a great show this year!  Look for the show to be broadcast on OC16's Brown Bags to Stardom in a couple of weeks!

Monday

11/11: CAMPUS BEAUTIFIED!

These recycle bins are heavy!

We're NEVER chewing another piece of gum!

Hey!  We can SEE ourselves!  Is this Windex?

Yardwork is FUN!

Our administrators lend a hand!  Mrs. Toyama is good at this!
Seniors scour the campus for trash!

Devin carefully balances a tray of drinks!

Sophomores carefully (purposely?) box in Jared Nitta!

In the end, Sophomores do an outstanding job!

Girls' Basketball with help from the Sophomores re-do the Mene Square "M!"
(Jared's going to be boxed in AGAIN!)

The end result is awesome!

Freshmen re-do "No Loitering stripes."  Drinks, anyone?
Our annual Veterans' Day Campus Beautification was very successful thanks to our administrative team and custodial staff who took on some early problems and helped iron out everything.  Clubs, athletic teams and grade level classes all came out to do various tasks including:  Seniors (trash pick-up), Juniors (landscaping), Sophomores (painting of both "M's"), Freshmen ("No Loitering" stripes), Girls' Basketball (painting of the Mene Square "M"), Cheerleaders (painting picnic tables), Girls' Soccer (gum scraping and recycle bin cleaning), Air Rifle (lower court cleaning); Spanish Club (room cleaning); Dance Moanalua (gum scraping); Math Club (cafeteria window cleaning); PAAC (fan cleaning) and the S.A. officers who served refreshments.  Thanks also to those who donated supplies including:  C. Shimoda, F. Tanitomi, A. Garbe, P. Nitta, L. Voss, NHS, custodian volunteers and the administrative team.
