LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

5/10: AWARDS ASSEMBLY RECOGNIZES THE BEST!

ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR:  LEO CLUB
(Advisor Candace Chavez and President Eric Hong)

TEACHER OF THE YEAR:  MS. MELISSA GOO

MENEHUNE OF THE YEAR:  RACHEL TANOUE

CO-CLASS OF THE YEAR WINNERS:
SOPHOMORES (Advisor Lachelle Sablan and President Devin Soogrim)
AND SENIORS (Advisor Karl Achiun and President Taylor May Lacar)
This year's Awards Assembly was slightly different from years past.  For one, a conflict occurred with AP Testing that has never occurred in the past, so a few award recipients were not present.  In addition, because of the conflict, some of the incoming and outgoing officers were not present, so it was decided that the installation ceremony normally opening the assembly would take place at the senate awards luncheon (see earlier post).  Still, most of the recipients and their parents were present, and all were most deserving of their awards!  Congratulations!

Monday

5/6: YEARBOOK PARTY CAPS SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION YEAR!

The annual Yearbook Signing Party was just the final topping to a successful first year for new advisor, Ms. Chela Sheets.  Together with an experienced staff, the Moanalua High School yearbook was named the top yearbook in the State.  Congratulations to Ms. Sheets and the entire staff!

5/6: HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

Rachel and Jannah sort hundreds of Mene Thanks messages in alphabetical order!
Rachel, Erica and Harim distribute the finished booklets on Teacher Appreciation Day!
Dani and Devin distribute booklets from the other side of the mailboxes!
To any of our staff reading this post, HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!  We certainly do appreciate all of our teachers and staff at Moanalua!  As part of the student council's annual appreciation activities, we distributed Mene Thanks booklets made up of individual student and staff messages of appreciation.  Throughout the week, the individual grade levels will also thank the staff in their own way.

The final Senate Meeting of the year is by invitation only based on the number of absences, three or fewer.  At this meeting, we recognize committee chairs, senators based on years of service, and outgoing S.A. Officers.  This year, we also inducted the incoming officers since many of them will be taking AP Exams during the Awards Assembly where the induction normally occurs.  Congratulations to all award winners and thank you for your service!  (Note:  Senator pictures above represent only a fraction of the 100 senators as many were absent for various reasons.)
