LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

9/27: MOANALUA COMPLEX CONFERENCE DRAWS A CROWD!

Exciting "music videos" culminate activities for the day!
Fun was had by all....thank you for attending!
A tired group of officers, half of which had to rush over to band practice afterwards!
Almost 140 students from the five Moanalua Complex Schools attended the annual Complex Leadership Conference!  Students from Moanalua Middle and Moanalua, Red Hill, Salt Lake and Shafter Elementary Schools sent students leaders to be trained in leadership skills as well as team bonding and, well, to have some fun at the same time!  The largest contingent was from Moanalua Elementary with 41 participants from grades 3-6!  The complex conference was lead by the 13 member Moanalua High School Executive Council who were trained themselves back in May.  This one one of the smoothest running conferences in recent years thanks to the help of complex school advisors and the fact that this years group of participants really got into participating in the activities.

Today, we got an opportunity to thank the entire staff for assisting with the recent Homecoming activities.  While special thanks go out to certain groups like the administrators, class and committee advisors, and support staff, we also recognize that in order for Homecoming to happen, it takes the cooperation of EVERY staff member.  To recognize this, the entire staff was treated to a Hawaiian plate lunch today, thanks to the cafeteria staff.  Mahalo for making activities possible!

Bryan Sakai from First Hawaiian Bank tries his best to judge!

Representative Aaron Johanson and Senator Donna Mercado Kim
discuss the merits of each class entry!
If ever there was a year when banners were difficult to judge, it is THIS year!  Each class pulled out all the stops and created masterpieces of color, movement, lights, and even music!  Three judges:  Senator Donna Mercado Kim, Representative (and Moanalua alum) Aaron Johanson, and Mr. Bryan Sakai from First Hawaiian Bank all agreed that it would be a challenge to rate each entry.  Take a look for yourself!
