LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

12/15: WINTER FANTASY WAS "ONE SWEET MOMENT"

Picking which picture pose and packet is a major decision!
Nutcrackers guard the entrance to the ballroom!
Part of the 500+ attendees crowd the Pacific Beach's Grand Ballroom!
"One Sweet Moment" was the theme for Winter Fantasy 2011, and candy and sweets were EVERYWHERE!  Thanks to committee chairs Sammy Clark, Dani Hipol and Meshelle Hirashima and especially advisor Stacie Arakawa for putting on a great event for 550 students.  Thanks also to all the chaperones and to Ms. Shelly Koyanagi who filled in for Ms. Arakawa during bid sales.  Except for a few "dirty dancers" who were promptly dealt with by administration, all went smoothly.  (Apologies for the blurry pictures!)

Saturday

12/9: HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS AT CPK!

This year's Executive Council decided to celebrate the holidays at California Pizza Kitchen in Ala Moana.  The evening started off a little different as traffic woes prevented almost everyone from getting to Ala Moana by 6:00, but thankfully, the CPK staff which by coincidence included three Moanalua alums helped get everything to us as we arrived at different times.  By 6:30, we were all set.  The food was great, the Secret Santa gifts were unique, and we all had fun!  Happy Holidays to anyone checking out this entry!

12/3: LOKAHI COLLECTION DAY COMBINES FORCES!

This year's annual Lokahi Collection Day Project combined two groups of Moanalua students:  the SA Officers and members of the Travel Industry Management Team.  All together, twenty-one volunteers came out to help man two major street corners at Ala Moana Shopping Center:  the Atkinson and Piikoi corners.  The exact amount collected is not known, however, both groups returned with backpacks full of donations.  Thank you to all volunteers, and good luck to the Lokahi Organization with this year's fundraising efforts.  Pictured above top to bottom:  volunteers get final instructions, Erica and Sydney get a donation, and Jamie tries her best to convince a driver.
