LEADERSHIP: IT'S NOT ABOUT REWARDS; IT'S DOING WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU!

2022 MOANALUA HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (above) The Moanalua High School Executive Council is made up of fifteen volunteers. VOLUNTEERS! While officers are elected, they choose to run knowing that if they win, there is no physical reward, no letter grade, no incentive other than the pure satisfaction of doing a good job and representing the student body. At times, we achieve great success while at other times, we achieve somewhat less, but it is always a learning process. While we can take away much satisfaction from doing a good job, we can also learn from mistakes and try to better ourselves the next time. And so, at the end of our terms, while we do not earn a credit, a letter grade or even a certificate of achievement proving our accomplishments, we can take away the self-satisfaction in knowing that we did our best for the students, school and community, and that positive experience is something we can really use as contributing adult members of society.

10/31: HONOR ROLL STUDENTS GET FREE SUNDAES!

The second annual Honor Student Sundae Bar took place after school on Halloween!  If you were on the honor roll and dressed out for Halloween, you received a FREE sundae!  If you did not dress out, you could get one after 30 minutes.  In all, 175 students took advantage of this social.  Five gallons of ice cream, four bottles of syrup, three bags of M&M's, four bags of chocolate and butterscotch chips, two bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and a box of Nilla Vanilla Wafers were just enough to serve everyone.  The only problem encountered was running out of spoons!  Congratulations Honor Roll students!

10/31: FINALLY, HALLOWEEN "CELEBRATED" ON.....HALLOWEEN!

For the past couple of years, Halloween was "celebrated" on October 29 or 30, simply because of the way the 31st fell on the calendar.  This year, the 31st actually fell on a school day!  A variety of very creatively costumed students and staff haunted the hallways of Moanalua.  Congratulations also to Mr. Abe Manutai's Period 1 class for winning the costume contest!

10/28: "LATE" PEP RALLY RECOGNIZES TEAMS' ACHIEVEMENTS!

The annual Fall Pep Rally was a little late this year, being pushed back a couple of weeks because of a conflicting event.  Nevertheless, although most teams already finished their seasons, they were still able to acknowledge coaches and fans alike.  The rally also included, for the first time in many years, the return of the Principal's Quarterly Report, and we even had some time left for a class competition.  Congratulations to all fall sports teams!

Wednesday

10/26: BE DRUG FREE....LIKE US!

A handful of officers helped out at the Peer Education Program's (PEP) sign waving activity this morning.  PEP annually holds this activity in the student parking lot to encourage drivers to be DRUG/SUBSTANCE FREE!  Students from other organizations and classes also came out to help spread the message.

Thursday

10/19: REGISTRATION HELP FOR NEWBIES!

The annual Registration Night for incoming freshmen and anyone who needs help was held in the cafeteria.  Important information regarding course requirements, college requirements, GE applications and Senior Project were discussed as well the actual filling out of the registration card.  Department chairs gave special talks about each subject in break-out rooms, and other groups such as SA, athletics and AFJROTC held special sessions.  Officers came to help with the SA booth as well as serve as guides for parents needing to find specific rooms.

Friday

10/14: YOOKOSO HIROSHIMA KOKUTAIJI!

Over 250 students and teachers/staff from Hiroshima Kokutaiji Senior High School visited Moanalua today.  Thanks to the hard work of the World Languages Department staff as well as the administrators and cafeteria staff, the visitors were treated to a day of fun activities and cultural exchange.  One of the highlights of this annual event is near the end when the Hiroshima students do a mass dance, then invite Moanalua students to join them and learn the steps.  Hiroshima students actually GIVE our students their Happi Coat costume and instruments as souvenirs.  Hopefully they had as much fun as we had hosting them!

10/10-14: THANK YOU CAFETERIA STAFF!

October 10-14 is National School Lunch Week and true to tradition, we honored our cafeteria staff each day with a different class doing something special.  This year, S.A. was a little late, as we normally kick-off the week, but we ENDED the week this time around, checking in with the staff on Friday morning.  Thank you very much to our hard working and dedicated cafeteria staff!

Monday

10/8: OFFICERS ASSIST THE PG UNITED EFFORT!

Moanalua's Project Graduation United Committee runs a monthly steak plate fundraiser at the Salt Lake Shopping Center on the second Saturday of each month.  This month, we decided to help with the plate construction,  making like a cafeteria line and placing the rice, corn and steak on each plate.  We also did collection and some sign advertising.  The flow of customers was steady but allowed us to have a nice fried rice lunch courtesy of one of the parent volunteers.  We aren't sure exactly how much was made, but there was a definitely a profit!  Good luck to the committee!
